2016 The year so far- Time flies when you're achieving goals and having fun!

It's been another smashing start for Team Ward with so many fantastic individual and team achievements including multiple podiums, personal bests and more Worlds qualifications for both Sunshine Coast 70.3 World Champs and the ITU World Champs in Mexico later this year. We have welcomed several new team members, had another awesome action packed and challenging annual training camp in stunning Port Macquarie, and enjoyed many quality team events and group sessions. The photos really tell the tale, but as coaches we continue to be proud of each one of you for the effort and dedication you put in to your personal journey towards achieving individual performance goals and success. The best part for us is to witness the team camaraderie, friendships and personal growth in such a wonderful bunch of people. In the next few weeks we look forward to heading to the Hunter Valley for our annual tour, and cheering on 3 of the team tackling the legendary Challenge Roth Ironman. We then anticipate everyone bringing home strong the last half of the year with their major goal races after a solid winter. Remember Winter Pain = Summer Gain!

Here's a few pics from this year's Port Mac camp

Key race highlights for 2016 in reverse order

June- Cairns Ironman and 70.3- Amazing first time Ironman effort from Nate who smashed his expectations on what was a super wet and challenging day. Great racing by Laura and Coxy in the 70.3. Loza with another top 5 finish and Coxy knocking out a solid race for only her second 70.3.

May- Port Mac 70.3- Port Mac is certainly the hardest and generally the slowest course on the 70.3 circuit so to post fast times and PB over the distance here is superb. The team spirit out on course (and on the sidelines) was amazing.  We had 12 athletes dominating out there and all of our guys and girls were right up the pointy end in the competitive field. Well done to our podium finishers Kim and Loz and our super consistent Polly who placed 4th and got the elusive Worlds spot she deserves.

* Port Stephens Tri Festival- Superb day out racing by our Team Ward and Chocolate Box athletes with 7 podiums across the Olympic and Sprint distance events

April- Batemans Bay Tri Festival- Wow- 3 podiums from our crew of 5. In the Half Ironman- Laura 1st AG and 4th overall, Kim 3rd and huge PB, and Justin and Willo both with top 8 placings. Congrats also to the always consistent Suz with 2nd place in the sprint.

March- Wollongong Olympic- solid AG places, PBs and Worlds qualifications from this competitive Australian Championships race- well done all. Sydney Sprint Tri Series- great racing by all our crew who all placed in the top 5.

FebruaryGeelong 70.3 we had a strong day from our crew of 4, with Loza again placing 2nd in her AG with the fastest run. Sydney Sprint Tri- congrats to our team of 4 who all placed in the top 10! Call out to Thomas for his first podium finish.

*Husky Tri Festival- We had a big group again this year with athletes competing in both the sprint and the long course events. It was awesome to witness some excellent performances with solid PB's. Special mention to Kim for 2nd in AG and a huge PB. Meanwhile over in Wanaka Mark completed his first ironman on one of the toughest courses out there.

*Aussie Cross Tri Champs down in the Snowys. Well done to our off road pair Gomer and Kev for their top placings in this championship event.

January- Shout out to our Podium finishers- Ryan 3rd overall at Coogee Sprint Tri, Willo 3rd in Canberra Olympic and Rachel 3rd in the ACT Olympic Tri Champs nailing down her Worlds spot.

Coaches corner

*After a hectic 12 months balancing lots of study, working with a number of mentor coaches and athletes, and in addition to being a new mum we are thrilled that Nic has expanded on her Tri Qualifications and degree in Sports Science to attain her Triathlon Australia Performance Coach Level 2 qualifications.

*Some exciting developments for Ward Coaching and Team Ward as we have partnered with Chocolate Box Training and are focussed on developing their endurance sport program. The first tri specific program was a huge success with the athletes racing at Port Stephens Sprint and Olympic distance races in May and achieving 4 podium finishes in their first ever triathlon. There are some talented athletes in this lot and we are excited to be working with the group towards further race goals later in the year including Nepean, Noosa and Phuket 70.3.

*We are also delighted to have joined the coaching panel for Warringah Triathlon Club and look forward to the new season working with many more local northern beaches based athletes.
