A massive thank you to Nicole. Without your coaching, encouragement and support – we would not have been anywhere near ready to compete in our first ever Corporate Challenge. Even though there may have been some whinging on our behalf – the team really did ‘enjoy’ the weekly lunchtime sessions. The results speak for themselves – after only 8 short weeks – we were a fitter, stronger and more focused group. If ever we need group training again – you will be our first point of call – we know where to find you!


Whether your goal is general improvement, a PB or placement in a Championship race, Ward coaching is as committed & passionate about achieving your goal as you are. My only regret in triathlon is not training under Ward Coaching sooner!


Coach Bern has personalised my training programme to suit my body, my family and my goals. I have never been fitter or stronger. Bern’s holistic approach has prepared me for my first Ironman, covering race day nutrition, mental preparedness and endurance.

Bern and Nicole make themselves available at any time to pass on their wealth of experience. Despite living 400 kilometres away, they bend over backwards to make me feel part of the positive group that makes up Team Ward.

Whatever my fitness goals in the future are, I look forward to achieving them with the support of Team Ward.


I’ve been fortunate enough to have been coached by Bern since 2011 & he has helped me achieve results that exceeded all my expectations.

Bern is smart, fair & professional. My program is planned to suit me as anindividual. Each week I became fitter, stronger & confident which motivated me to continually challenge myself.

What is also important is that Bern believes in me & what I want to achieve. His supportive approach towards my training/race feedback inspires me to think about things differently or pushes me mentally to the next level.

It was a great honour to be Nic’s “project” the first to formally train under Nic’s guidance. In the past I had made up my own training schedule with no real structure. When signing up for my first ironman I wanted to ensure I had a structured training program and would be 100% prepared to face my biggest challenge yet.

Nic was a fantastic support, she took time to listen and understand my goals but also give me the encouragement and confidence to believe in myself.

Nic worked closely with me to design a program that would fit around my busy work schedule, she was/is very flexible and will send me a substitute set within hours if required.

It is fantastic having a female coach that really understands the highs and lows of endurance training and is only a phone call away.
When lining up for my first ironman there were a lot of nerves, but it was very reassuring, and one less stress knowing my race preparation had been designed to get me to the start and through the race in top shape.

Although formally training with Nic, Bern has also been a fantastic support, ensuring my bike set up is correct to eliminate injury and answering any of my random questions.

I love being part of Team Ward, not only do I get the individual one on one coaching but also enjoy the great bond of the team. Everyone is very supportive and always looking out for each other.

I love being a part of the Team Ward coaching community who have a truly holistic approach to developing their athletes. Areas include nutrition, race travel and mental preparation in addition to triathlon specific coaching.

Nic as my personal coach is a huge inspiration and I would recommend her and Bern wholly to all triathletes whether complete beginners or elite, they really have developed something special with Team Ward and make training fun!


When I signed on for a half ironman triathlon it was with mixed feelings about how to train effectively to get to that start line feeling ready both mentally and physically. I needed a coach to help me that was for sure! I was fortunate enough to hear that Bern was a triathlon coach through a friend who had trained for her first Olympic Triathlon and had nothing but compliments for Bern’s approach to her training. I decided to ask him if he’d take on another client and luckily he agreed!

The training plan that Bern provided over a 5 month period was challenging (in a good way), kept me focused on the areas I lack strength/confidence in (mainly swimming!) and was manageable esp. given I work fulltime. He has a very positive approach, is an enthusiastic coach (you can tell he loves triathlon!) and I felt very comfortable asking him many questions about training and racing. I can honestly say I’ve learnt a great deal which has helped me become stronger, fitter and more knowledgeable about the sport.

Having a coach to support me through the many aspects of training both mental and physical was fantastic for my motivation and confidence and helped me get to that start line feeling ready and positive about the task at hand. I would recommend Bern as a Coach to anyone who is keen to take part in triathlon (both beginner and experienced).
